An opulent, Fragonard inspired wreath of roses, silk ribbons, ferns, greenery, and the usual Open Sea critters.
Roses are one of the most iconic flowers, symbolizing love and devotion. We grew up with rose bushes, filled with wonder at their cascade of vibrant color and revitalizing fragrance. Although there are hundreds of species and thousands of human-made cultivars, the essence of a rose is its balance between beauty and danger. Glorious flowers are nestled among vines covered in thorns. A rose given as a romantic gesture is a reminder that love requires care, awareness, passion, and wonder.
Originally inspired by the salty, crystal clear blue shores of the Mexican Caribbean, Open Sea is a creative studio based in Brooklyn that specializes in fine stationery and paper goods. The company was established in 2015 by Melissa Constandse.
This paper goods line is inspired by the occult, the Victorian era, and all manner of esoteric traditions, as well as naturalist art and the treasures of the plant and animal kingdom. Each piece is meticulously designed with purpose and intention as a tribute to long lost traditions and to the beauty and wonder of the natural world.
