Once upon a time, the paper "Vergé de France" was made by hand in huge vats.Today, G. Lalo makes the same paper according to traditional methods but with modern techniques. "Vergé de France" refers to the grid of parallel translucent lines (vergeures") that was formed in handmade paper as the sheets were laid to dry (the origin of the term "laid finish.") These grids are very helpful as guides for handwriting.
